International Symposium for neuroorthopedical treatment of children with Cerebral Palsy
June 8-10, 2001 on basis of Eupatorium Central Clinical Children Sanatorium of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, an International Symposium for neuroorthopedical treatment of children with Cerebral Palsy took place.
During this forum, leading neurologists, rehabilitation and orthopedic specialists from Ukraine, Russia and Germany had a unique chance for the exchange of thoughts, scientific and practical achievements and experience.
Many reports were aimed at the necessity of the common view as to expediency of orthopedic surgeries in case of Cerebral Palsy and contraindications for such interventions. Accentuated was also the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to medical services for Cerebral Palsy patients.
Special attention of the participating specialists was given to new elements of the Intensive Neurophysilogical Rehabilitation System (Prof.Kozyavkin's method), which are intended to stimulate the internal motivation of a child and his active involvement in the rehabilitation process.
The Vice Minister of the Health Department of Federal Land of Bavaria, Dr.K.Helzel, delivered to Professor V.Kozyavkin, for efforts in development of the medical rehabilitation, the Medal "For efforts in helping children with special needs". The leading specialist in pediatric orthopedics of Germany, Professor Korel, stated in his speech to the participants of the symposium:
"We know only two methods that came from the East to Western Europe that made a kind of revolution in European medicine - orthopedic method of Elisarov and Intensive Rehabilitation Method of Kozyavkin".
