Conference held at the European Parliament
An international conference for the social adaptation and total integration of disabled people into European societies was held at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels on 17th March, 2009.
This conference took place under the honoured patronage of Mr. Marek Sivec, Vice-President of the European Parliament, who personally invited Professor Volodymyr Illich Kozyavkin to present Ukrainian technologies for intensive rehabilitation.
A number of members of the European Parliament, representatives of European institutes, medical associations and non-governmental organizations took part in conference work.
The General Director of the International Clinic of Rehabilitation, Professor Volodymyr Kozyavkin addressed the audience and his speech attracted great attention. He presented the fundamentals of the rehabilitation system, the history of its development, the main components and results of its applications. However, the most significant testimonials in regard to therapeutic results were expressed by patients who had themselves tested these methods. Patients from different countries arrived at the conference and shared their achievements with the audience.
Conference participants exchanged ideas concerning perspectives for international collaboration and exchange of experience in the field of medical rehabilitation. According to the participants, this meeting opened a new leaf on relations between the European Union and Ukraine and constituted an important step towards mutual understanding.
After the conference, Mr. Marek Sivec was interviewed by the Ukrainian TV channel Inter. He stated:
-We are very used to hearing alarming political news from Ukraine. But today, we witnessed a new Ukraine with our own eyes – a country, where all West European countries could learn a lot in the field of medical rehabilitation.
