Conference in Oslo

Conference “Strategic therapies in Cerebral Palsy” was held on 22 January 2009 in Oslo at the Rikshospitalet – one of the biggest medical and research centers of Norway.

This conference was attended by care-givers, therapists, doctors, politicians, journalists and parents who are interested in introducing new effective therapies and providing optimal health care for patients with Cerebral Palsy.

The main goal of the conference was to present the information about new perspective approaches in rehabilitation of Cerebral Palsy. Therefore, the conference organizers invited Prof. V.I. Kozyavkin (UA) to present Intensive Neurophysiological Rehabilitation System and Mr. Mathew Newell (USA) to share the experience of the Family Hope Centre.

Opening ceremony was started by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Norway Mr. Oleksandr Tsvietkov. He stressed the importance of cooperation between Ukraine and Norway and mentioned that the new Ukrainian method of rehabilitation is a visiting-card of Ukraine in Europe.

The first presentation at the conference was made by Prof. Karl Reichelt from Rikshospitalet about the influence of food intake on neural disease.

Presentation of Intensive Neurophysiological Rehabilitation System that was delivered by Prof. Kozyavkin and Dr. Kachmar aroused vivid interest in the audience.

Their presentation described history of the method, its main components, results and directions of further scientific researches of International clinic of rehabilitation. In addition to their talk they presented a live feed to the Clinic in Truskavets with fantastic live shots of the patients displaying their new movements following the Prof. Kozyavkin treatment.

Mr. Mathew Newell – a director of the Family Hope Centre (Philadelphia, USA) spoke about their approach to work with the disabled. Together with his wife Karol, he presented the work of the centre, approaches to diagnostics and patients documentation.

The newest data about stem cells and their use in medicine were presented by Prof. Joel Glover, director of the Norwegian stem cell centre. He also said that now there are no scientifically proved possibilities of stem cell use for treatment of cerebral palsy.

During the second part of the conference health care system for disabled in Norway was discussed. Parents, representatives of public organizations, members of Norwegian parliament participated in the discussion.

In private talks the development of a new rehabilitation clinic in Norway was discussed.

A new journal designed to promote health care and awareness for developmental disorders was presented by Olav Jordal. The proceedings of the conference will be published in the first issue of “Cerebral Palsy Mirror”.

To sum up the work of the conference, the head of the organization committee, neurobiologist, CEO of the TipoGen Frank Hoover underlined the importance of international cooperation for improvement of health care for disabled children.
